President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday honoured "one of South Africa's finest exports" – the Soweto Gospel Choir – at the Market Theatre Square in Johannesburg.
Ramaphosa, accompanied by Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, congratulated the choir on winning the Best World Music Album Grammy for its collection of songs titled "Freedom" in February.
"You are most certainly the most colourful export we have – colourful not only in the clothes that you adorn – but are also the most active export that we have," he said.
"Your name reverberates throughout the world."
This was the group's fifth nomination in the category and they have now won the prestigious award a total of three times.
