Hailstorm hits Laudium, Pretoria

Chilly weather conditions hit large parts of Gauteng this past weekend.

Heavy downpours, accompanied by hail and strong winds, resulted in localised flooding and swollen rivers around the Tshwane Metropolitan area.

Videos have surfaced of a heavy hailstorm in Laudium, Pretoria, on Saturday. No major damage has been reported.

According to the City of Tshwane's Emergency Services spokesperson, Johan Pieterse, some residents were displaced by flooding.

"We had to evacuate residents on Saturday to temporal locations, but they were able to go back to their homes on Sunday once the waters had subsided," Pieterse told News24 on Monday.
