Former Wits SRC President, Mcebo Dlamini weighed in on the tensions between the South African Union of Jewish Students (SAUJS) and the Wits Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) by saying it shows how the university serves the interest of the Zionist.
"Such incidences should not be happening at a space of this nature," he told News24.
"It continues to prove the incompetency of the Wits Management and mostly more than incompetency, the biasedness of the Wits Management on how they handle the interest of the Zionist vis-à-vis the other interest."
Tensions rose between the SAUJ and the PSC at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) on Tuesday as the second day of the Israeli Apartheid Week 2017 got under way.
There were heated exchanges, while punches were thrown between students who support Palestine and those who sided with SAUJS.
"It is a known fact that the Palestinian week, the MSA and BDS were given the rights to be here prior to the Jewish interest or whatever they call themselves," added Dlamini.
"We will continue to expose the shenanigans of Wits Management."
