Change often comes slowly – but Covid-19 has pushed us forward into change in a swift and decisive way. And for many of our readers, this push was towards using technology far more than before and embracing digital content in a much bigger way.

That’s why we’re delighted we can bring you your favourite magazine in a native digital format for the first time. For those of you who have made the switch from print to digital (or you’re wanting to), there’s finally a great reading solution.

YOU is now part of News24’s newly launched subscription service. It’s only R75 a month, which is great value for money if you consider what you’ll get.

Take a closer look.

I’m confused. Is this a News24 thing or a YOU magazine subscription?

The subscription service is called News24 for subscribers and YOU is available as part of that subscription.

Media24 owns YOU and News24 and other English Media24 publications such as DRUM, True Love and City Press are also part of this service.

Why should we pay for online content if so much of it is free elsewhere?

Quality journalism doesn’t come cheap. Great journalists, rewriters, copy editors, creative teams and all the other people who bring you our excellent content spend hours and days to craft and polish the final product you consumer every day and every week.

Yes, of course there is free content out there too – but often it’s not very good quality. It might even be fake news or it’s ripped off from reputable publications.

The journalism we create is worth paying for. We take great pride in bringing you well-researched, accurate articles that inform, educate and inspire or that can take you out of the humdrum of everyday life.

We bring you stories from around the world but also from ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things.

Our fantastic food is tried and tested so you know you won’t end up with a flop. And our education section for children has trustworthy, curriculum-based content that will help with homework or keep them entertained.

We love what we do and we want to keep bringing it to you – and for that we need your help through a subscription.

Okay, okay! So what exactly do I get for R75 a month?

Apart from easy, convenient digital access to YOU, there are plenty of perks that come with this subscription.

Wide range of journalism. In addition to getting YOU, you’ll have access to content from News24, other magazines like DRUM and True Love, and newspapers like City Press. This will all be available via the publication websites or in the News24 app.

Listen to articles. Subscribers can listen to almost all of the articles available (exceptions include things like picture galleries or video features). This means if you’re doing chores or driving and unable to read, you can listen to the entire article.

PDF reads. You’ll be able to read YOU, True Love and City Press in PDF format as well as web format. Look out for e-Editions to get to that section.

Share articles with friends. You’ll be able to share up to five subscriber-exclusive articles with friends every month so you talk about what you’ve read, watched or listened to.

Join the conversation: Of course, you don’t need to wait for your friends to be part of a conversation – subscribers have access to the comments section, which allows you to share your thoughts with the team and others. You can show respect for comments you like and be part of a community of people who are in the know.

Save your favourites. Bookmarking is one of the features that are quite useful if you don’t always have time to read something the moment you spot it. Or if you have a recipe you want to refer back to every now and then. Just bookmark and you have easy access to your saved stories whenever you need it.

Helpful updates. Save your location to get updated traffic reports and weather in your area. Once you save it in your profile, you’ll be able to access it on any device you’re logged into.

Newsletters. Let’s be honest – we don’t all have time to trawl through all the great stories on offer and newsletters are a good way to find the gems you may have missed. It’s carefully curated for your interest and there’s a wide range from food, books, royals, careers. Some newsletters are for subscribers only.
