Schoolkids are doing it, Janet Jackson is doing it, Cristiano Ronaldo is doing it, health workers, athletes – heck, everybody is doing the Jerusalema challenge, so it was just a matter of time before our four-legged friends joined the fun.
Yes, believe it or not, animals are also doing the challenge, inspired by the global hit song by Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode.
At the Wild is Life wildlife sanctuary and the Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery in Zimbabwe, workers have been taking part in the challenge, along with their charges, including giraffes and elephants, who showed off their moves.
“We had so much fun creating this #JerusalemaChallenge video – the whole team got in on the action,” reads the caption on the Facebook post of the video.
“Dance is the language that our souls speak!”
The video clip has gone viral, with more than one million views. “Thank you to all of you for sharing the joy and bringing awareness to our animal sanctuary and our tireless efforts to rescue, rehabilitate and rewild these precious animals,” the non-profit conservation organisation said.
To celebrate Heritage Day, President Cyril Ramaphosa has
encouraged the nation to join the challenge. “I urge everyone to use this
public holiday as family time,” he said. “And there can be no better celebration
of our South African-ness than by joining the global phenomenon that is the
Jerusalema dance challenge.”
