A 25-year-old American man has been charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly choked a driver who wouldn't stop singing Christmas songs.

Clayton Lucas, from Harrison in Pennsylvania, was being driven from a halfway house to a treatment class when the driver's singing set him off, Huffpost reports.

According to the Daily Mail, local police responded to a call around 09:00 on Monday for what they understood to be a medical emergency. They found a minivan parked at the side of the highway and two men on the other side of the barricade.

According to the driver, who hasn't been named, Lucas had reached around the driver's seat and began choking him, causing him to almost lose consciousness, the New York Post reports.

When Pennsylvania State Police tried to arrest Lucas, he apparently refused to cooperate. After several verbal commands, officials were forced to sweep Lucas' legs from under him in order to gain control of the situation.

The driver told police that Lucas had restricted the air and blood around his neck to the point where he was on the verge of passing out.

Officials said that they noticed the victim's eyes were bloodshot and that his neck was red.

Lucas is being held in the Allegheny County Jail and has been charged with assault, strangulation, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
