This Australian couples struck gold, or should we say diamonds, when purchasing a R29 board game.
Chris Lightfoot (27) and girlfriend Mandy Flack, who moved from Australia to Canada, decided to buy Mind trap, a board game which consists of a collection of riddles, to play with loved ones during their vacation on Prince Edward Island, Daily Mail reports.
“I figured [since] my parents were in town we weren’t exactly going to have a wild night out drinking,” Chris said.
“I thought maybe we’ll go to the thrift shop and pick up some board games.”
After playing for a few minutes, Chris and his family were left stunned following their discovery of the sparkling surprise, News.com.
“We bring it back and start playing and Mum starts asking the questions.
“She goes to put the cards back in and she's like 'What's going on, they don't fit.’
“She reaches in and pulls out a diamond ring and then another, and another and another,” he said.
Inside a hidden compartment were six diamond rings worth $18 000 (around R185 308).
“To be honest I thought about heading back to the store and buying every board game they had,” the Australian said.
Chris and Mandy then made an effort to find the original owners of the board game but were unsuccessful, 7 News reports.
The pair has safely tucked away the rings for safekeeping and hopes it will serve as an emergency fund or fund a new boat.
“When our visa is up, we thought about buying a new boat and just setting sail to the Bahamas.”
