Almost every year, a great South African athlete emerges ahead of a major championship. The new talent is mainly discovered by national team scouts from overseas, particularly from the US. Anaso Jobodwana popped up in 2012, Derrick Mokaleng hit the scene in 2016 and Shaun Maswanganyi arrived in 2020; and now we have Neo Mosebi.

Jobodwana came to prominence at the London Olympics, Mokaleng made his breakthrough in the 400m at the World Under-20 Championships in Poland and later made the senior national team that went to the global track and field competition in Qatar in 2019.
