There is a gap year in every person’s life, depending on your life events at any given time. However, the gap year I want to talk about and highlight is the one you take after matric.
Our pupils are not taught about a gap year in their learning life. I wonder why.
I have heard many interesting stories about white youths who took a gap year after matriculating, either to go on a long trip and think about a future career path or to explore volunteering possibilities that exist.
I am highlighting this issue because many matrics are excited and look forward to furthering their academic ambitions at various higher-education institutions.
But there are many bogus institutions that have emerged from nowhere.
Beware! We are familiar with them; they are bogus and only want to prey on vulnerable youth, who could not secure a space at government or private institutions of higher learning.
Please do not fall prey to this.Do not give in to peer pressure to attend just any academic institution or move to big cities in the name of furthering your tertiary studies. Please consider a gap and volunteering year.
Talk to your elders, convince them that you will reapply this year for a fresh start at a registered and regulated higher-education institute next year.
While taking a gap year please behave yourself properly, set yourself principles and standards. A gap year is an opportunity to begin again the following year. Continue reading books throughout the year.
Do not waste your parents’ hard-earned cash and savings at these bogus places that start disappearing around March, leaving you depressed.
Please do your research on institutions first.
A gap year is an opportunity for a fresh start.
