  • Audi's new RS 6 and RS 7 are both powered by a bi-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine.
  • Customer deliveries will commence in South Africa during July.
  • Pricing starts from R2 332 700 for the RS 6 Avant and R2 444 500 for the RS 7 Sportback.

Just when you thought performance cars from Audi couldn't get any better, the brand has unleashed the fastest versions yet of the RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback.

Under the bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 TFSI engine with power figures of 463kW and 850Nm - an increase of 22kW and 50Nm more torque than the base versions.

The eight-speed Tiptronic sends power to all four wheels, allowing it to run from zero to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds. That's impressive for chassis that weigh 2 065kg (RS 7) and 2 090kg (RS 6).

A cool feature is the coasting mode that activates automatically in the efficiency profile, which means in speed ranges up to 160km/h, it switches off the combustion engine and coasts with no fuel consumption or drag torque from the engine.

The RS models also feature updated software in the transmission control unit that enables faster shifting times and a noticeably increased spread between the various driving modes.

The mechanical wizardry doesn't stop there.

The lightweight self-locking centre differential improves cornering, which also makes for less understeering when taken on track - the latter is a common occurrence with all-wheel-drive vehicles.

Moving to the exterior, both models come with standard 22-inch matte titanium grey, diamond-turned wheels - also available in burnished glossy metallic black, matte black, or matte neodymium gold.

The lightweight wheel is roughly 5kg lighter than the 22-inch aluminium wheel on the current RS 6 Avant or RS 7 Sportback.

A full package

Customers can choose from 16 exterior body paints and stay on the colour scheme; the mirrors, front spoiler, front side flaps, side sill inserts, and roof rails are coated in matte grey.

A matte carbon/black styling package is also offered as an optional extra.

The Audi rings, and model name are available in the customer's choice of chrome or black.

Audi has never missed the mark regarding its interiors; with the RS twins, it is no different.

The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara black, finished in Mercato blue stitching along with the floor mats, side-of-centre console, and gear selector cuff.

The sports seats feature Valcona leather perforated with honeycomb stitching and contrasting Mercato blue stitching.

Last but not least is the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit that features launch control and a blinking shift indicator.

Customer deliveries of these two new models will commence in South Africa during July, with the public able to experience these models at the Audi driving experience from September 2023 onwards.

Audi launched the first RS product in 1994 with the RS 2 Avant, whose five-cylinder engine made 232kW.

Since then, a total of 25 RS models have been added to the product range.
