Wheels24 readers have been battling for months to book online slots for licence renewals. Many have written into our desk and shared their frustrated experiences.

While many have said they have been unable to book any appointments because there are never any appointments available, most users have also shared their dilemma of battling with creating profiles or not being able to stay logged in, and loads of other problems.

The RTMC has kindly shared some tips, and how to troubleshoot common errors which may pop up while you're trying to book a slot online.

While the system itself is not the most user-friendly and definitely needs an overall, or for the processes to be simplified, the best we can do in the meantime is try to figure out the consistent errors.

Here is some information that could be useful when applying for the renewal of your Driving Licence or when applying for a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).

How to register a profile

The RTMC highly recommends that you register a profile on the website https://online.natis.gov.za. This ensures that we have your latest and preferred communication information.

To register a profile please ensure that you have your current Driving Licence on you:.
 • Click on My Profile
 • Enter the information required.
 • Please Note: You must enter the required information exactly as it appears on your Driving Licence. The NaTIS verifies this information for security purposes and will only allow the profile to be registered if the information supplied, is exactly as it appears on the NaTIS.
 • Please note errors such as a misspelt surname or incorrect initials can ONLY be corrected at the DLTC
 • Some known issues users have encountered:
- The system indicates that an invalid driver licence card number was entered
- The following characters and number look similar on a Driving Licence card and can result in an error message. It is suggested to verify the correct character or value should an error occur:
- Z and 2
- 0, D and O
- G, C and 6
- 8 and B
- 5 and S
- Y, V and U

Should an error persist, please send a copy of your Driver Licence card to onlinesupport@rtmc.co.za for further assistance.

OTP Issues when making a booking

The following information could explain why you are not receiving OTPs when trying to make online appointments.

Your email could be the problem:
- Your firewall could be blocking communication from the RTMC server
- The OTP could be in your spam folder.

Your own network on your cell phone or your home internet could be the problem.
- Your Internet connectivity at home or on your phone could either be slow, intermittent or poor as the online system sends OTPs immediately
- It may help to check your internet connectivity and speed in order to identify

The NaTIS has incorrect or invalid contact details
- The Contact details on the system are old or has not been changed since first registration on the NaTIS system as a driver/ vehicle owner, or there was an error when entering the information required.

System Default settings
- Both your contact details were completed but you may have selected SMS as your  preferred method of contact, however the OTP was sent to your email by default

You are receiving multiple OTPs which are invalid at the time of entering it in the OTP field
- This sometimes occurs where the applicant keeps on clicking the back button and does not remain on the One Time Pin page
- Going a step back invalidates the OTP already sent.
- Sometimes applicants clicks on the resend OTP button multiple times which invalidates the One Time Pin.

The Online Booking system has a technical problem
- You not receiving an OTP could also be linked to a technical problem on the booking system.
- Please note the RTMC endeavours to resolve all technical issues as soon as possible.
