WATCH: Tense stand-off as street vendors catch looter

accreditation

A service-delivery protest by the Ses’khona Peoples Rights Movement turned ugly on Thursday where after looters began to attack street vendor's stalls in the Cape Town CBD. One culprit was caught - News24 Live followed the mob to investigate. Watch.

The Ses'khona Peoples Rights Movement protested at the provincial legislature on Thursday, claiming the Western Cape government has not responded to their memorandums handed over during previous marches to the legislature.

The DA denies this with Premier Helen Zille telling iol.co.za that "despite the Western Cape government's efforts to engage with Ses'khona in good faith, the organisation, by its own admission, is determined to make this province ungovernable and is supported by the ANC. This is why they disrupted our meeting with them and have refused to work with us to improve service delivery in communities."

As they dispersed from the legislature, a few protesters began looting stalls. A few stores in the CBD immediately began closing their doors as a precautionary measure.

News24 Live followed an angry mob of street vendors, most of them foreign nationals, after one of the alleged looters was caught.
