Fantastic horse racing will combine with lots of fun for the last month of the year, at the Fairview track in Greenbushes.

If you are looking for an entertaining Friday afternoon in December, racing at Fairview will provide the action. There are five exciting meetings remaining.

As has been the case for decades now, when we are approaching the festive season trainers Alan Greeff and Gavin Smith are topping the log for the most winners in the Fairview season.

The season started in August, which means there are eight months left of the battle between Greeff and Smith for the East Cape trainers’ title to pick up the pace.

Greeff is leading with 38 winners, three more than Smith who is the defending champion and whose stable is in tremendous form.

Smith dominated the last meeting when he won three of the six races, including the feature race, which was the Glendore Sprint.

The lightning-fast Slim Jannie won the Sprint and has very quickly become one of the favourite horses of the Fairview faithful. Slim Jannie formerly campaigned in KwaZulu-Natal and Smith has done a brilliant job with the four-year-old since he relocated to Fairview. The gutsy gelding is the top earner at Fairview for the season. He won two of his four races for prize money of R244 375.

Smith also won the November Stakes two weeks ago with one of the top horses in the province, Khaya’s Hope, in another great training feat.

Khaya’s Hope was the champion three-year-old last season, but had some serious health issues earlier in the year. Smith very carefully made the right moves to get his star back on track and it is a huge relief to see Khaya’s Hope is clearly back to his best. The November Stakes was his seventh career victory from 15 starts. He was placed in seven other races and only missed the money in one of his races, an awesome record for horse and trainer!

The stats of Greeff and Smith are up there with the best in the country and proves the Bay has some very talented trainers plying their trade at the Fairview stables. It is also great to see that the Jacques Strydom Racing Team is enjoying a tremendous season after a few lean ones.

The stable is on fire at the moment and Strydom has the second highest win percentage, which is no mean feat when you are competing with giants like Smith and Greeff.
