New GWM SUV: Built like a tank

Chinese vehicles are slowly but surely winning over South African hearts. Cyril Klopper found a good one.

Great Wall Motor Co. – or GWM – is celebrating its 17th anniversary in South Africa this year. This private company is the largest manufacturer of bakkies and SUVs in China and is showing its mettle against state-owned vehicle manufacturers like BAIC and Chery.

In fact, GWM was initially prohibited by the Chinese government from manufacturing sedans which is why they focussed on bakkies and SUVs instead.
