Why are South Africans the 'biggest daredevils' in open water?

11 South African men and three SA women have been ranked by the World Open Water Swimming Association as among the top 50 most "daring, courageous and audacious" open water swimmers in the world. Two of them - Carina Bruwer and Ryan Stramrood - join us in studio. Watch.

SA has the most swimmers on the men's list (11). The US is second with seven swimmers. Each of the top 50 men were "true heroes…whose lifestyles are unique and mindsets are rare," the Association noted.
