Naspers Foundry invested R42 million (US$3 million) in Cape Town-founded, WhereIsMyTransport. WhereIsMyTransport is a mobility technology company that improves public transport access in high-growth market cities. It uses data and technology to map formal and informal public transport networks, making public commute more reliable, predictable, safe, inclusive and accessible for millions of people in highly populated megacities.

WhereIsMyTransport’s solution has broad alignment with Naspers investments in food delivery and e-commerce that rely on mobility solutions and focuses on cities in emerging markets. They have mapped the following cities in South Africa: Cape Town, Tshwane, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, East London, Ekurhuleni and George. Their datasets also power the MyCiti and Gautrain apps.

Here is a case study conducted by WhereIsMyTransport on Transport for Cape Town (TCT).

Transport for Cape Town was the first Transport Authority established in South Africa, with a mandate to make movement accessible, affordable, and inclusive. WhereIsMyTransport worked with the City of Cape Town to develop a first-in-kind public transport mobile phone application, providing a journey planning service for commuters. In addition, WhereIsMyTransport enabled Transport for Cape Town to offer a transport app that brought all the transport modes together in a single platform.
