Embattled state-owned enterprise South African Airways remains in the spotlight at the state capture inquiry, as the former head of procurement at South African Airways Technical (SAAT) Nontsasa Memela continues her testimony.

SAAT forms part of SAA and provides technical support and maintenance to its aircraft.

On Monday, Memela denied that she signed off on the dubious sale of components to an aviation company that secured a multi-billion rand contract in a tender tainted by bribery allegations.

Memela was questioned about her role in the sale of ground power units (GPU) for less than half their market value to JM Aviation.

Last week, former SAA chairperson Vuyisile Kona testified that he had found himself caught between the airline's powerful former chairperson, Dudu Myeni, and a former advisor to then public enterprises minister Malusi Gigaba, as both appeared to manoeuvre to stake their claim with the Guptas.
