Police have arrested four men aged between 17 and 29 after another man was robbed and stabbed outside a petrol station on Oakford Road in Brindhaven, north of Durban.
Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said police are investigating a case of robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
In CCTV footage posted online, a dark blue Toyota Tazz is seen stopping near the man, 40, sitting on the pavement.
Four men jump out of the vehicle on Saturday, approach the 40-year-old and go on to repeatedly assault him before taking his belongings.
Reaction Unit South Africa reported that the items stolen included R250 in cash, a gold ring and a Samsung cellphone.
Police said the four men appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Monday.
